FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

- My Groom has two left feet. Can he really learn to dance?
Yes. If he really has two left feet, then I only have to fix one of them! The most important thing I do in the lessons is make sure the groom feels not only competent, but confident. (Read Why Men Don't Dance for more on this subject) I don't expect him to know how to dance before a lesson. It is my job to teach him that. Once he learns how to lead, you will be able to follow.

- How soon before the wedding do we need to start lessons?
You should start as soon as possible. The main reason for this is because as you get closer to the wedding date, you will have less free time to learn. If you start months ahead, you have plenty of time to enjoy the process without the pressure of the performance deadline right around the corner.

- What if we know what kind of dance we want,
but don't have a song yet?

I can recommend dozens of appropriate songs that will fit the mood/style you are looking for. Click here for a good starting point.  We can start the first lesson or two while you make your final decisions.

- What if we are torn between several different songs?
You can bring several different songs to your first lesson to try them out. Another option is to start with one song, and at a specifically chosen spot, switch to the other song/dance style. This is done quite frequently and always turns out nice.

- Can we use part of our lesson to work on our parent dances?
Yes, but keep in mind that everyone's skill level and ability to catch on varies with each new partner, dance step and song. You may want to schedule your own lesson time to get the desired results.

- Can you videotape our routine for us to use as a blueprint?
Yes. If you have enough memory space on your cell phone, I can dance the steps with the bride while the groom films, and you can use that to practice after the lessons.

- Do you do "mash-ups"?
Mash-ups tend to be a little different than authentic partner dances since they are generally based on hip-hip and line dances. However, if you already have a mash-up choreographed, I totally encourage you to bring it on in for some help with embellishments or some ballroom-style additions! Or, to create a mash-up, we also have a teacher in our studio who specializes in this choreography, so you could work with us both.

- How long is the ideal wedding dance routine?
An ideal dance performance is two to three minutes long. If your song is longer than that, you can fade out at a certain point. Another option is to edit the song so you keep the really unique parts of the song (such as the ending). I can edit it for you with an appropriate beginning, end, and seamless transitions for the ideal length.
